The Leonardo Trait Creativity

Happiness

“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it. ― Osho”

Creativity is similar to our muscles. It needs to be stretched, utilized, and in some instances, challenged.  Getting out of our comfort zone is the way forward when it comes to creativity. Pandemic is an excellent time for pushing your creative muscle. You have all the time in the world with the lockdown in place.

Here are a few ways you can boost your creativity.

Be Curious

Curiosity doesn’t always kill the cat. Sometimes it shows the cat a road that leads to delicious treats.  Be curious in your life. Try to learn new things. Explore the world around you. Creativity doesn’t come with sitting on your couch all day and doing the same thing all day, every day. Routine is good for our mental health, and it keeps us grounded, but creativity sparks from doing something different. As mentioned earlier, challenging yourself is what will truly help you be creative.

Unpredictability has led to many creative endeavors in people’s lives.

Doing Things You Love

Another way of boosting your creativity is by doing something you truly enjoy. Creativity comes from doing something you love, something that pleases you and your senses.  Albert Einstein believed creativity and love go hand-in-hand. He stated, “That’s the way to learn the most, that when you are doing something with such enjoyment that you don’t notice that the time passes. I’m sometimes so wrapped up in my work that I forget about the noon meal.”

Indulging in a hobby you enjoy, such as playing an instrument, running, swimming, reading, helps you reduce stress, get relaxed, and gives your creativity a good boost.

Find Inspiration

Sometimes you can get stuck in a rut. You may feel like there is nothing new happening around you, and you don’t feel your best. This happens when you get bored of the routine, and your creativity gets blocked. It happens to the best of us.  You have to find inspiration to boost your creativity. Creativity doesn’t always come in unpredictable flashes. Sometimes, you have to work towards it.

Unwind and Unplug

Alan Cohen says, “There is virtue in work, and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.”

Working to boost your creativity is great, but you should rest up. Unwind and relax your body and mind. Your brain requires plenty of rest to formulate the next creative idea.  You never know when your next creative idea may come. It could come while you watch a movie, and it could come during shopping, exercising, hanging out with friends, taking a shower, walking, and so on.  Allow your brain to relax so it can do its magic.
